Offering A Salvation Invitation To A Child
What do they need to know?

Kids are so open to the gospel and to the supernatural. They seem to just get it. When ministering salvation on the street or in a church setting, when giving an altar call, you need to remember to keep it simple. Kids don’t need fancy words; they just need to be able to understand the truth. They need to hear an undiluted account of how Jesus died for their sins and is coming again for His children. Start by telling them about your personal experience when you met Jesus and how it changed your life.
Three things to mention when giving an altar call:
- We are all sinners. Romans 3:23, For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Sin is anything that separates us from Christ.
- We need forgiveness from our sins. 1 John 1:9,If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. Jesus died on the cross and paid the price because he loves you so much.
- When you accept Jesus in your heart, you become a child of the King. John 1:12, Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God…
There are so many objects you can use to show how you were born with sin and Jesus washes it away. With my 5-year-old son the other day, I was talking about how we dirty our hearts with things we say and do, and Jesus cleans our heart and takes the dirt away. I was cleaning out the coffee maker and grabbed the grounds in my hand and said to my son, “When we sin, our hearts look like this” (and I showed my hand dirty with the coffee grounds), and he said, “Oh gross, we need to wash that.” And I talked to him about how Jesus washes our hearts and makes them clean. I prayed with him and asked God to clean all the dirt from his heart, and he said, “I feel so much better now. I don’t want a gross heart.”
On some occasions when I have ministered salvation to children, they have told me later that they literally felt Jesus wash their mouths and hearts with soap. They tell me this as if they have soap in their mouths, with their faces all scrunched up.
It is very important for children to know who they are with Christ and to know that through salvation we become daughters and sons of the King. Their identity has been changed. As they accept the salvation Jesus offers, they open their souls to His supernatural presence in their life.
