Nowadays, everyone (okay, not everyone, but most) starts their day off with a cup of the sacred bean in some form. Drip coffee from the Mr. Coffee pot at home, an overheated latte from Starbucks, or some frozen concoction blended with a lot of sugar and a hint of coffee. Coffee “fuels” many of us and helps get the day started right! I want to ask this question: Is your kids ministry fueled by coffee? Below is an acronym that will help you find out…
C – Celebrate Wins
Nothing puts a jolt of energy into your kidmin team like celebrating wins! When your leaders have clearly defined objectives and then celebrate them when those objectives are achieved (wins), that sparks something inside of them and drives them to win more!
O – Outreach Oriented
The great commission is to reach the lost. In his book titled “If”, Mark Batterson says, “We’re called to advance the kingdom, not hold the fort.” Our kids’ ministry should be fueled by reaching those kids in our community and city who have never heard the gospel message. Not by having the latest and greatest technology or the funniest puppet sketch!
F – Foster Friendship
One of the missions of our church is “to be a church that experiences community.” We’re driven to connect people with a faith community. When kids are surrounded by other kids who are seeking Christ, they are fueled to keep going and encouraged along the way. Also, they foster friendships that will last a lifetime and help them to make positive choices rather than negative ones.
F – Family Focused
The family is one of the most important biblical statutes under attack by the enemy. If the enemy destroys a family, he’s not taking just one person down, but the whole tribe. We need to fuel parents and families with resources that will help them play offense rather than defense! Christ-centered families living out the great commission are what will make America great again…not a political position.
E – Encouraging
Hopefully kids in your ministry aren’t drinking coffee (or that will fuel them for all kinds of craziness)! Encouraging a kid or leader by the power of words will fuel them to dream higher and achieve more. 1 Thess. 5:11 says, “Encourage one another and build each other up.” A kids’ ministry fueled by encouraging others does just that… builds world changers!
E – Equipping
There are few things in kids’ ministry more important than allowing kids to encounter the Holy Spirit. When you build in time for kids to hear the still, small voice of the Spirit, they are fueled and challenged to act far more by Him than by anything you could say or any object lesson you can do! Allow the Holy Spirit to be the equipping fuel to the image bearers of God that sit in your kids’ ministry.
